Live Edge is made up of a flexible and caring community of co-workers involved in many different aspects of the business. The people featured below live on Whidbey Island, are often to be found working at the shop, and are actively involved in its current development.

Greg Davidson - office manager, resident philosopher, investor

Greg “holds down the fort” in his sunny loft above the wood shop, answering the phone,  keeping the books, and managing orders. One of his more challenging tasks is tracking down Kim, a tall order, indeed! Greg's investment of capital and his unwavering faith in the potential of the business have been essential to its success since its conception in 1998.

  Jim Shelver - woodworker, carver

A retired civil engineer and “bona fide senior”, Jim has been a long-time contributor to Live Edge. Jim says: “I love wood in all forms, especially wood with character and artistic appeal. I see boundless opportunities to create pieces that sit well in the natural world. My excitement is working with others who share this joy.”

Richard Merrill – carpenter, craftsman, artisan

“I'm a fool for anything new, unusual and innovative in building, be it materials, techniques, tools, design, you name it.  If I haven't done it before, I want to try it.  Live Edge always has something to delight my senses and challenge my creativity, including beautiful unique materials, interesting projects and real good people.  I look forward to continuing my relationship with Live Edge on into the future.....”

Gordon P. Sanstad, jr.  – boat builder,  woodworker, teacher

“I have been a woodworker since my dad gave me a pocket knife as a little kid. I became a journeyman shipwright in 1977 and have been working on boats, with side excursions into contracting and carpentry, ever since. When not cuttin’ the big ones with Kim, I teach boatbuilding at Seattle Central Community College.”
